We asked Joe Sardotz, owner of Oregon Roof Consulting and Inspection, to tell others how important it is to combine good-old-fashioned shoe leather efforts with newfangled Search Engine Optimizaton and a full-featured website to grow one's business. Don't miss his comments below and many more words of wisdom on his own Super Roofer Blog.

I hired Elizabeth to build my first ever website for my new roof consulting businessI first met Elizabeth in 2008 when I sold her a new roof. I couldn't be more pleased with my site and have received many compliments about it. It was a positive experience and worth every penny. The site will continue to grow and Precision Computing Arts will always be involved.

Joe Sardotz combines a detailed, easy-to-navigate, SEO-oriented website with good old-fashioned hard non-digital work to grow his business.

This site will be a crucial tool to the growth of my business. But, a website (and Search Engine Optimization or SEO) is just a part of the machine, though a critical one. You can't just sit back and put up your feet and wait for the phone to ring. You must hit the pavement, network, spread the word, email potential contacts and clients. Mail them information. Present yourself at their place of business and introduce yourself and explain (briefly without bloviating) what it is you do and why your services would be useful to them. This should take no more than two minutes. Be relentless.

Also separate yourself from the pack by going the extra mile. Do the little things that others are not willing to do. Study what your competition does and choose  another direction. Stand out. Be recognized as an individual and not just another schlub.

Elizabeth can be very helpful in other aspects of your business besides just the website. She was very helpful with various forms, business card layout, lettering layout for a vehicle, advertising strategies, etc.

It all begins, though, with YOU. Your success or lack of it will be determined by you, and if you fail you have only yourself to blame.
